Since 2018, the New South Wales city of Armidale has been a designated site for resettling refugees. It’s a town that sits within the electorate of Barnaby Joyce. While Joyce was a key voice supporting Armidale’s establishment as a refugee resettlement site, he’s since defected from the Nationals to One Nation, a party which wants to ban all migrants who don’t speak English. Guardian Australia’s community affairs reporter Adeshola Ore travels to Armidale to speak with Joyce and community members, including refugees, to find out how the town squares with One Nation’s vision of a monoculture
