Middle-distance runner Rose Davies claimed Australia’s first athletics medal of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, kicking away from Kenya’s Diana Wanza in the women’s 10,000m to secure gold on the first day of track and field in Glasgow.
The Novocastrian surged to the lead in the final kilometre of the 25-lapper and won by 10 seconds over the African champion. It is the first time an Australian woman has won the event and Davies admitted she was only sure she would win in the final metres.
