Comcar drivers at parliament

Anthony Albanese has defended his government’s assault on transparency in a novel way. What’s the scam?

The scam is Albo’s arbitrary use of irrelevant data.

Questioned in Parliament about the proposed changes to Freedom of Information (FOI) legislation, the PM stood up and stated,

“Last year, public servants spent more than one million hours processing FOIs – not doing policy, not helping people out there with their issues, but going through FOIs.”

He could just as easily have said,

“Last year, Comcar chauffeurs spent almost a million hours driving politicians and others around in taxpayer-funded cars – not doing policy, not helping people out there with their issues; but opening doors for politicians and driving them around.”

How do we know how many Comcar drivers there are? Simple, it’s been FOI’ed.
